TAKE A RISK
I get asked a lot how I have managed to travel as much as I have the last few years. I am always asked questions like how can you afford it, or where do you find the time? I hear so many people say, "Well man it just isn't in my cards". I want to always encourage people that you can travel. You can experience new things and see places you day dream about on your Instagram feed.
I was driving home the other night and as most people who really know me know that I am a little obsessed with football. I played it for 12 years and it was a big part of my life. I was listening to the NFL network and they were interviewing Brett Favre, a Hall of Fame quarterback, and they were asking him what he is going to do in retirement. He was talking about the different endorsements he does, but he was also talking about how he has taken mini vacations with his family. Brett said to his family, "you know lets go to Yellowstone." He said how he had never been and it was just something he had seen on tv and in photos. Why do I mention this you ask? One of the wealthiest QB's of his generation, and an individual who had every means to be able to go and travel and visit beautiful places, didn't visit Yellowstone until he was done with football at the age of 40 plus. He went on to talk about how visiting Yellowstone inspired them to visit many more national parks like Sequoia and Jackson Hole, just to name a few. As I heard this I was honestly pumped because I was like," wow I have had the blessing to visit so many beautiful places."
This post isn't to make you feel small for not visiting new places or to brag about how awesome The Journey is. The point is to inspire you to know that it does not matter if you are a college student. It does not matter if you are newlyweds, or just recently had a kid. It does not matter if you are young or old; if you put your mind too it you can experience the beauty around you. You have to stop telling yourself no, and start figuring out ways that you can go.
One of the founders of our group, Nathan, was telling me how our journey has inspired some of his friends back home that they can go and visit Jackson Hole because they have seen our photos and it caught their attention. That is what it is about. We will all make time and find the resources for things we are passionate about. Your Journey might not necessarily mean you love jumping into a car or flying across the world and immersing yourself in a new culture or place. My question to you though is what is your passion? What do you keep telling yourself you can't do? The sooner you stop finding excuses and start finding ways to make your dream a reality, you will find that you can push yourself further then you ever imagined.
Did we think when we took our first trip to California we were going to try and start a company one day? No. God has directed our path and enabled us to be able to go on more and more trips. I firmly believe when you do what God has called you to do He will make a way. Now we aren't solving world hunger by jet-skiing in Utah or ATVing on the Oregon Coast. We are playing in God's playground, and I am telling you I have learned so much about God on my travels. The immense beauty displayed over America is truly breathtaking. The Bible says, "the heavens declare the majesty of God" (Psalms 19:1). I have gazed at the stars over multiple states and every time I look up I see how small I am, and how big my God is. I am so unworthy of his love and He lets me experience His beauty and I never want to let that get old. Now God is potentially giving us an opportunity to start something that we can use to share the Gospel. Not just with our generation of fellow adventurers, but in the business side of things; we can take profits from The Journey and use it to pour into the lives of those in need across the world. James tells us if we say to the poor, go in peace, stay fed, and be warm, but we do not help them with things for their physical body, what are we really doing to help (James 2:16)? Our mission as a whole is to not just take exciting videos and make our Instagram page look cool. Our goal is to use our talents and passions to help others, knowing we can make a difference for the kingdom. Sometimes you have to step out and take risks. I challenge you to search your heart and ask yourself if there are any risks you should take. Maybe God is tugging at your heart to do something bold. Maybe God just wants you to experience His glory in his beautiful creation. Whatever the case may be, what are you doing to answer the call? I leave you with this quote and I hope it challenges you...
Gandalf speaks to Bilbo in The Hobbit series while Bilbo is having a hard time going on the quest with the dwarves. He wants to stay in the comfort of his home and all he knows. He is having a hard time making a leap of faith to challenge himself and push himself. He speaks of adventure but he is too scared to do it. Gandalf tells Bilbo, "The world is not in your books and maps, its out there." Don't let your life be a life of what-ifs.
